Nhung(4세)은 태어났을 때부터 약해 몸을 뒤집지도, 기지도 못하고 목은 항상 한쪽으로 기울어져 있었습니다. 결국 뇌성마비로 진단을 받았습니다.
Nhung이 한 살이 되었을 무렵부터 Nhung과 Nhung의 어머니는 여린현 재활센터(Gio Linh Rehabilitation Center)에 나오기 시작하였습니다. 센터에서는 많은 지역주민들, 치료사, 자원봉사자들이 프로그램에 참여하고 있는데, Nhung의 걷기, 서있기, 앉기 말하기 등을 돕고 있습니다.
Nhung은 센터에 올 때마다 매우 기뻐하면서 내내 미소를 짓고, 센터에 오지 못하는 날은 실망하는 내색을 보인다고 합니다. 그래서 Nhung의 어머니는 정기적으로 센터를 방문할 수 있도록 노력하고 있으며, 그 결과 지금은 물건을 약간 잡을 수 있고 다리도 점차 강해져 서 있을 수도 있게 되었습니다. 특히 한국에서 베트남으로 파견된 봉사자 강설희 단원(물리치료사)과 김윤아 단원(작업치료사)의 노력으로 Nhung은 빠른 발달의 향상을 보일 수 있었습니다.

메디피스(Medipeace)는 생활반경의 확대를 통한 삶의 질 향상 및 부모의 보육 부담 감소를 위하여 이동보조기구인 워커를 지원하였습니다. Nhung은 워커를 이용해 움직일 수도 있고, 친구들과 공놀이나 퍼즐놀이를 하기도 합니다. 물건을 잡으려 할 때마다 Nhung의 손은 많이 떨리지만, 강설희 단원과 김윤아 단원의 도움에 힘입어 항상 미소 지으며 더 애를 씁니다. Nhung은 여린현 재활센터의 한국인 파견 봉사단원들과 치료사, 지역주민들과 가족의 격려와 노력으로 성장해 나가고 있습니다.
메디피스(Medipeace)는 2012년부터 베트남 꽝찌성에서 지역사회 중심의 장애아동 역량강화를 위하여 재활치료 소외 감소 및 삶의 질 개선 사업을 수행 중입니다. 이를 통하여 지역사회의 적극적 참여를 통한 재활치료 소외아동 수의 감소 및 치료의 지속성을 확보를 위해 끊임없이 노력할 것입니다.

Stories of Community-based Rehabilitation Programs in Quang Tri, Vietnam
4-year-old Nhung was very weak since birth. She could not roll over or crawl, and her neck was tilted to one side. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Since she turned one, Ms. Lien, Nhung’s mother, took her to the Gio Linh Rehabilitation Center almost every day. Ms. Lien said: "At the Center, collaborators, therapists, and volunteers help her learn to walk, stand, sit, and talk. Each time she comes to the Center, Nhung is very happy and smiles all the time. When she can’t come go to the center she becomes depressed, so I always try to take her to the center regularly. Now she is able to hold things lightly, her legs are stronger so she can even stand up."
With the dedicated guidance from Medipeace volunteers, Seol Hee and Yoon A, Nhung has made rapid improvement. She can now stand and move around with the help of a walker donated by Medipeace, and likes to play with a ball and solve puzzles with her friends. Medipeace also donated a walker to her. Nhung’s hands still shake when she tries to grip objects, but with the volunteers’ encouragements, she always smiles and tries harder.
Since 2012, Medipeace has been implementing the community-based child rehabilitation project in Quang Tri Province with aims to helps children with disabilities develop their capacity, decrease isolation and improve their quality of life. Medipeace is constantly striving to make an effort to improve access to rehabilitation services and heighten sustainability of rehabilitation with community participation.
