메디피스(Medipeace)는 필리핀 일로일로 주에서 시행 중인 모자보건 지원 중심의 보건의료체계 강화사업 관리 및 세부 활동 진행을 위하여 5박 6일의 출장을 다녀왔습니다.
방문 첫날, Balasan 지역병원(Balasan District Hospital)을 방문해 2015년에 지급되었던 구급차의 유지·관리 상태를 점검하고, 병원 간호사와의 인터뷰를 통해 병원 응급의료서비스 현황을 조사하였습니다.
같은 날 방문한 Estancia 보건소(Estancia RHU) 방문조사에서는 2015년도 인식개선 사업의 일환으로 시행한 산모 보건교육 파일럿 캠페인에 대한 사업효과성 파악을 위한 조사를 시행하였습니다. 인터뷰와 조사지표들을 통해 산모교육용 책자의 활용정도와 산모들의 이해도, 시설분만율이 사업 시행 전에 비하여 크게 증가한 것을 볼 수 있었습니다. Estancia Jolog 보건지소(Estancia Jolog Barangay)에서는 2015년 지원한 모자보건 기자재들의 유지·관리 현황을 점검하였으며, 대부분의 기자재들이 효과적으로 활용되고 있음을 확인하였습니다.

둘째 날 부터는 올해 중으로 구급차를 지원할 예정인 Sara 지역병원(Sara District Hospital), Concepcion 보건소(Concepcion RHU) 그리고 Ramon D. Duremdes 지역병원(Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital)에서 현재 운행 중인 구급차의 상태와 지원 필요성을 재확인하고 응급의료서비스 현황을 조사하였습니다.

마지막 날에는 향후 실시될 예정인 심폐소생술(Basic Life Support; BLS) 및 소아전문소생술(Pediatric Advanced Life Support; PALS) 교육과정 참가자의 관련 지식 수준을 파악하고 교육의 효과성 파악을 위한 기초선 조사가 이루어졌습니다. 설문에는 일로일로 주 12개 지역병원에서 총 34명의 의료인력이 참여하였습니다.
메디피스(Medipeace)는 향후 구급차 지원과 더불어 BLS 및 PALS 교육을 진행할 예정으로, 일로일로 주정부 보건국과의 미팅을 통해 사업 진행 일정을 공유하고 관계자들의 지속적인 협조를 구하였습니다. 필리핀 일로일로 주의 모자보건 보건의료체계 강화를 위한 메디피스(Medipeace)의 노력은 계속될 것입니다.

Strengthening the Maternal and Child Healthcare System in Iloilo Province
Three Medipeace employees recently visited the Iloilo Province, Philippines for six days to oversee the ongoing healthcare project that focuses on strengthening maternal and child health.
On the first day, we monitored present conditions of ambulances which Medipeace offered last year to Balasan District Hospital, and checked current implementation levels of emergency medical services provided by district hospitals. Estancia Rural Health Unit, which was investigated on the same day to assess the effectiveness of the maternity education campaign, showed dramatic progress in many areas such as utilization rate of booklet for maternity class, the level of comprehension of pregnant women, and childbirth rate in hospital. We also got positive results regarding the utilization and management of medical supplies that were donated in 2015 to Estancia Jolog Barangay Health Centre.
On the second day, we assessed the condition of vehicles currently in use in district hospitals in order to reconfirm the necessity of procuring new vehicles this year, and evaluated the current implementation status of emergency medical services provided by district hospitals.
Base-line research on 34 doctors and nurses working for hospitals in Iloilo province was conducted on our final day to assess the level of knowledge of the participants and the effectiveness of the BLS and PALS education programs.
Medipeace will conduct BLS and PALS education along with providing six ambulances, with the promised cooperation and partnership with the relevant authorities such as the Provincial Health Office (PHO). Our efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in Iloilo, especially regarding maternal and child health, will continue.
